Kano Police Detain 25-Year-Old Son for Assaulting Mother, Seize Firearm

The Kano State Police Command has taken into custody a 25-year-old individual named Ididiong James for allegedly beating his mother in the Panshekara Quarters of Kano.

According to the police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, James is said to have physically assaulted his mother after she declined to give him a Barreta pistol along with eight rounds of ammunition that she found in his bag.

As reported by the PPRO, the suspect attempted to flee as police arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call.

"The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Ididiong James, for allegedly attacking his mother and possessing a Barreta pistol with eight rounds of ammunition," stated the police.

On January 25, 2026, at roughly 7:30 PM, officers from the Panshekara Division responded to an urgent call and discovered that James was physically assaulting his mother at their residence.

Upon the police's arrival, the suspect fled; however, his mother presented the firearm and ammunition, explaining that she found it in her son's bag and refused to turn it over, a refusal that precipitated the violent altercation.

The mother expressed concerns regarding her son's altered behavior since returning from New Year festivities.

“The suspect was later apprehended and is presently in police custody,” the statement concluded.

CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Commissioner of Police, praised the mother's bravery and encouraged other parents to be observant.

"The actions of this mother are commendable, and we appreciate her bravery in standing up against her son's violent behavior," CP Bakori stated.

He also warned parents to closely monitor their children's actions and report any suspicious conduct to the appropriate authorities.
