The Kwara State government has decided to reopen all educational institutions in the state effective Monday.

This action follows weeks of interruptions caused by security concerns affecting areas within the state.

Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, confirming that school authorities have been officially updated on the situation.

As per the commissioner, the decision was made after a series of security operations led by the military and other law enforcement agencies focused on eliminating bandits and similar threats from forests and other risky locations throughout the state.

Olohungbebe noted that the authorities now view the current security climate as significantly improved compared to previous weeks. Nonetheless, they stress ongoing vigilance.

He emphasized that the government is continuing its security measures to consolidate the progress made recently, while also working to bolster community resilience alongside active security interventions.

Reports indicate that schools are reopening amid heightened military actions against bandit camps, especially in wooded regions previously utilized as refuges by criminal groups.

Last week, the Nigerian Army, with support from other security forces, conducted coordinated operations in various identified zones, resulting in the removal of bandits from numerous sites and the dismantling of their encampments.

Additionally, security officials have reported the arrest of suspected bandits and the seizure of weaponry during intelligence-led initiatives.

However, there have been concerns from community members acting as informants, which could undermine the effectiveness of ongoing operations.

This renewed campaign arose following a surge of kidnappings and assaults on communities in certain parts of Kwara, leading to the closure of many educational institutions as parents took their children out of school out of fear for their safety.

Olohungbebe reassured parents, students, and stakeholders in the educational sector that ensuring the safety of learners and staff remains the government's utmost priority.

He urged school leaders to maintain effective communication with security forces and to immediately report any suspicious activities in their vicinity.
