Commissioner of Education, Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, has urged states in northern Nigeria to adopt the approach demonstrated by Governor Uba Sani in prioritizing legacy projects through substantial investments in education.
Professor Sambo highlighted that Governor Sani's commitment to the education sector is designed to enhance access to learning, improve educational facilities, empower teachers, and remove financial obstacles for students.
This advice was given during the combined convocation lecture at Saádu Zungur University in Bauchi State, where the topic addressed was 'Education, Security And Sustainable Development: The Role of Universities In Northern Nigeria.'
A statement attributed to Malam Ibraheem Musa, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Uba Sani, quoted Professor Sambo stating that the Kaduna State Government has successfully reintegrated over 300,000 out-of-school children into educational institutions.
The Commissioner further elaborated that Governor Sani has implemented inclusive educational policies catering to girls, children with disabilities, and those affected by conflict.
He noted that the Governor has overseen the construction of more than 60 secondary schools across Kaduna State, alongside the building of over 2,300 primary school classrooms and the renovation of numerous existing facilities.
"Kaduna State Government has also trained over 33,000 teachers and education officers to enhance teaching methods and school administration. The pass rate for students achieving five credits in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) has risen from approximately 54% to around 67%," he added.
Professor Sambo also revealed Governor Uba Sani's initiative to expand technical and vocational education, along with skills acquisition programs, aiming to produce 12,000 artisans annually through the establishment of the Kaduna State Institute of Vocation Training and Skills Development (KIVTSD).
He specified that these skills centres are situated in Soba town, Rigachikun, and Samarun Kataf, serving senatorial zones 1, 2, and 3, respectively.
Students at these centres are acquiring skills in fields such as welding, aluminum fabrication, fashion design, and solar panel installation. Upon completion of their respective programs, these artisans will receive certificates.
