The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) has carried out the deportation of a Nigerian national after credible evidence indicated his illegal residency and supposed engagement in illicit activities.

The individual, Obasi James Victor, 38 years old, was sent back to Nigeria on Tuesday morning, January 13, 2026.

Vaibhav Gaikwad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for H-NEW, reported that Victor entered India on a tourist visa via Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on December 31, 2011.

Initially, he was involved in exporting textiles to Nigeria before launching a restaurant named ‘William African Restaurant’ in Delhi, where he lived with his family.

Nigerian National Deported for Overstaying

Authorities noted that Victor's visa and passport had lapsed many years prior, but he continued to remain in India unlawfully.

During his extended stay, he reportedly associated with drug dealers, leading to suspicions surrounding his participation in drug trafficking and other illegal activities.

His deportation followed his identification in Tolichowki last month, where he was seen acting suspiciously.

Upon inquiry, he was unable to present any valid travel or residential identification or convincingly explain his presence in Hyderabad.

During questioning, he confessed that he did not have a valid passport or visa and acknowledged that he had overstayed in India since the expiration of his visa.

Drug Trafficking Operations in India

Following this revelation, H-NEW initiated deportation processes in collaboration with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Hyderabad.

As his original travel documents were invalid, an Emergency Travel Document was procured through the Nigerian High Commission.

An exit permit was also obtained from the FRRO. Authorities arranged for his travel to Lagos, Nigeria, from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

According to the DCP, this deportation was executed to mitigate the risk of the foreign national engaging in activities that could jeopardize national security.
