A blast occurred early Sunday morning near the US Embassy in Oslo, prompting a stern reaction from Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, who described the incident as a "very serious and completely unacceptable occurrence."
The explosion took place around 1:00 a.m. close to the consular entrance of the embassy. Authorities suspect that this act was intentional and may be associated with the prevailing security-political climate, thereby emphasizing the seriousness of the event, as stated by Støre.
The Prime Minister indicated that he had a conversation with the head of the embassy on the same day, noting, "I made it clear that the government is actively monitoring the situation."
He added that the Foreign Minister and the Minister of Justice are also engaged in the response. Significant investigative resources are currently being dedicated to the case by both the police and the PST (Norwegian Police Security Service).
Støre reassured citizens that there is currently no evidence suggesting a broader threat to residents in Oslo or other parts of Norway. "However, we have reinforced security protocols around the embassy as well as at other American, Israeli, and Jewish locations," he elaborated.
The PST has reiterated that the threat level posed to American interests within Norway remains stable and is assessed as moderate.
