Raphinha, the winger for Barcelona, has condemned what he refers to as double standards in refereeing within La Liga after his team faced a 2-1 defeat against Girona on February 16.
The Catalan squad was outraged by the decision allowing Girona’s late winner to count, with claims that there was a foul on defender Jules Kounde leading up to the goal. This controversy arises just days after Barcelona issued a statement expressing concerns over inconsistent officiating after a disallowed goal during their 4-0 Copa del Rey loss to Atletico Madrid.
In response to the recent incident, Raphinha shared his thoughts on Instagram, stating: “We have plenty of areas to work on, but it’s not solely us. It becomes extremely challenging when the rules seem to vary depending on whether they benefit or hinder us, but if we need to contend with everyone to achieve victory, we’re prepared to do so.”
As a result of this loss, Barcelona sits second in La Liga, trailing leaders Real Madrid by two points.
Head coach Hansi Flick also conveyed his exasperation post-match, indicating that the officiating standards matched the performance displayed by his team. He noted, “The officials carry out their duties; sometimes their performance isn't up to par, but it reflects the same level as our play, which perhaps isn't to a satisfactory standard.”
