Recent reactions have emerged from various Nigerians, including entertainers like Timi Dakolo and Ugezu Ugezu, in response to a viral video featuring Pastor Funke Felix-Adejumo. In this controversial video, Pastor Funke criticized Christians who publicly disparage fellow believers who have erred after committing sins.
During a church gathering, Pastor Funke shared a revealing anecdote:
‘’I feel a sense of shame as I recount this, but it's crucial. I was placed by the American embassy in a committee that included Muslims and representatives from other faiths. Out of that expansive group, I was the sole woman to be selected into a smaller committee.
During a meeting at the American embassy, where we had gathered for lunch, one of the Imams, who sat across from me, remarked, Mrs. Adejumo, I find it confusing why your Christian community behaves this way. Our Imams may engage in worse behavior, yet we choose not to broadcast it on social media; we keep it private. After all, this is a public forum, and people view it from around the globe... This is the reality.
I felt like hiding my face in shame as he spoke. He asserted that their community handles such issues quietly while ours does otherwise. What troubles your Christian community?
When a soldier falls injured, it seems believers are eager to be the first to strike. It's often believers that expose each other. It becomes a trending topic, and people take joy in it... Even pastors sometimes leverage these situations for sermons.
So I urge you to question yourselves, how many Imams have faced public scrutiny as we do to our own?’’
Pastor Funke's remarks sparked a wave of opinions online, with some Christians expressing their agreement while others, like Ugezu Ugezu and Timi Dakolo, voiced their disagreements.
