A prominent ally of Donald Trump in Europe has reportedly shared apprehensions regarding the mental state of the U.S. President, deeming it as 'dangerous', based on insights from European diplomats.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who had a meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago last week, is alleged to have made this observation while conferring with other European officials, as reported by Politico. Five diplomats, who chose to remain anonymous, disclosed that Fico broached this topic during a Brussels meeting on January 22, amid escalating concerns in Europe regarding Trump’s threats concerning Greenland.
While Fico did not formally challenge Trump’s mental stability in any official forum, sources indicated that he seemed troubled during private discussions with fellow EU leaders. His remarks have garnered significant attention as he is viewed as one of Trump’s staunch advocates in Europe and has consistently aligned himself with the President on contentious issues.
In response, the White House promptly rejected these assertions, labeling them as false. Anna Kelly, a spokesperson, told Politico that these claims were 'completely fabricated by anonymous European diplomats seeking relevance', emphasizing that the meeting at Mar-a-Lago was 'positive and constructive.'
Fico's informal discussion with Trump was attended by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio as well as Slovakia’s foreign minister. Following the meeting, Fico publicly expressed that he and Trump were 'fully aligned' on the serious crisis facing the European Union.
Trump's health and mental sharpness have increasingly come under the microscope since his return to the presidency. Recent months have seen raised eyebrows concerning instances of noticeable fatigue, visible bruises on his hand—which the White House attributed to frequent handshakes and the use of aspirin—and instances of verbal inconsistency.
At 78 years old, Trump holds the distinction of being the oldest president at inauguration. Nonetheless, he has staunchly maintained that he is in excellent health, even asserting at one point that he is 'healthier than Obama.' His latest annual physical, released last April, affirmed his fitness to perform presidential responsibilities.
Despite some of Trump’s public engagements, such as a lengthy speech during the World Economic Forum, facing criticism, the White House has defended his performance, asserting it was a success on the international stage.
