Violent incidents disrupted the local government congress organized by the Nyesom Wike faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday, leading to property damage and several injuries.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), party members were reportedly assaulted in Bodija, Ibadan North Local Government Area, and at various other congress venues statewide.
Julius Adekunle, a faction member, indicated that the attackers struck nearly all the designated congress locations across Oyo State.
"This was a coordinated assault as the perpetrators targeted multiple venues across the state," he stated.
Reports from areas such as Ogbomoso North, Ibarapa Central, Akinyele, and Ibadan North LGAs reveal that at least ten members of the faction faced attacks during the congresses.
"Numerous vehicles and other belongings belonging to our members were also damaged during the violence," Adekunle added.
He continued to explain that the assailants invaded the residence of Chief Hazeem Gbolarunmi, a leader within their party, in Bodija, resulting in the vandalism of property worth millions of naira.
Abdulrahman Akinoso, the state chairman of the faction, confirmed the events and expressed serious concern about the situation, describing it as chaotic. He urged security agencies to apprehend those responsible for the attacks and hold them accountable.
