The Nigeria Police Force is facing renewed scrutiny amid allegations of a cover-up, as Mrs. Nnenna John-Anozie accused high-ranking police officials of deliberately protecting officers allegedly involved in the kidnapping and disappearance of her husband, Mr. John Chukwuemeka Anozie.

During a recent press conference in Abuja, Mrs. John-Anozie claimed that the police have consistently ignored valid court orders and findings from formal investigations. She asserted that this behavior indicates a covert network operating beyond the reach of legal accountability.

Mrs. John-Anozie emphasized that the ongoing protection of the implicated officers not only obstructs justice but also diminishes public trust in an institution entrusted with safeguarding lives and rights.

“This is more than mere negligence; it is a betrayal of public confidence,” she declared, asserting that the police's response to her situation reveals a deliberate lack of action rather than a simple administrative oversight.

She insisted that police authorities possess detailed knowledge regarding the events surrounding her husband’s disappearance but have opted for inaction, despite multiple directives from the judiciary.

Contrary to assertions that the judicial process has impeded her quest for justice, Mrs. John-Anozie specified that the courts have ruled in her favor; however, enforcement has been hindered by the police's failure to adhere to legally binding orders.

“The courts have executed their responsibilities. It is the police who have consistently undermined the law,” she warned, stressing that such noncompliance threatens the integrity of the judicial system and erodes the rule of law.

Legal representation for Mrs. John-Anozie, Mr. Vincent Adodo, has filed a contempt application with the Federal High Court in Abuja, targeting the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun.

The application requests an order compelling the police to bring to justice those officers purportedly linked to the case, including Sunday Okpe, Anthony Obiozor Ikechukwu, Emeana Uzochukwu, John Eze, and an officer referred to as Oriole, also known as Tboy. It also seeks the release of investigation records related to the case.

The contempt proceedings are set for February 9, a date Mrs. John-Anozie considers pivotal not only for her family but also for accountability within law enforcement.

She expressed disappointment over her attempts to find redress with the National Human Rights Commission and the EndSARS Judicial Panel, alleging that police officers routinely disregarded summonses and directives from both institutions.

Despite the challenges she has faced, Mrs. John-Anozie remains determined to pursue justice through lawful means. She reiterated that upholding the rule of law is crucial for ensuring accountability, protecting citizen rights, and restoring confidence in public institutions.
