Eric Dane, widely known for his portrayal of Dr. Mark Sloan in Grey’s Anatomy and Cal Jacobs in Euphoria, has passed away at the age of 53 following a fight with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The actor, who was born in California, disclosed his ALS diagnosis last year. ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that progressively impacts nerve cells in both the brain and the spinal cord, and in recent months, he had been actively raising awareness about this condition.

His family announced that he passed away on Thursday afternoon after a brave struggle, with his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters, Billie and Georgia, by his side. They expressed their gratitude to fans for their unwavering support and acknowledged that his daughters were the focus of his life.

During an appearance on Good Morning America last summer, he shared feelings of frustration regarding his diagnosis, reflecting on his father's early passing and the fear that his daughters might endure a similar loss.

Following the announcement of his death, co-stars have paid tribute to him. Kim Raver commended his vibrant spirit and impeccable comedic timing, while Kevin McKidd offered a respectful farewell. Euphoria creator Sam Levinson referred to the experience of working with him as a privilege and expressed gratitude for their friendship.
