Zhang Chun, who gained fame as a Chinese fashion influencer under the alias Ni De Du Kou, has died unexpectedly at just 29 years old.
The news of her passing was confirmed by her mother following Zhang's funeral on Monday. Family members disclosed that her death was sudden and was due to complications from a heart condition she had been living with.
According to her mother, Zhang had a consistent pattern of staying up late, which may have contributed to her health issues. She reportedly became unwell in the early morning hours of January 1 and was taken to the hospital, where she could not be saved by the medical staff.
Zhang started her journey to stardom in 2018 by posting images of herself combining stylish sneakers with matching outfits, which earned her the title of "Sneaker Goddess." Her youthful and polished image helped her stand out in the fashion and streetwear landscape of China, amassing an online following that exceeded one million.
Additionally, she ventured into the entertainment industry, performing at various hip-hop events and collaborating within the urban fashion domain.
Her career, however, encountered significant challenges when her self-launched fashion line faced collapse, resulting in substantial financial debt. Sources indicate she underwent emotional struggles during this tumultuous phase.
In 2024, Zhang faced severe public criticism after she joined an adult content website to alleviate her economic hardships. This choice reportedly led to a decline in her follower count and ongoing online harassment.
Zhang was cremated in Shanghai on Monday.
Following the announcement of her death, numerous tributes from fans and colleagues have emerged on social media, with many reflecting on her significant impact on youth fashion trends and sneaker styling.
