The President of Lebanon has called for direct negotiations with Israel and an immediate ceasefire to end all Israeli military actions on land, air, and sea against Lebanon, as he stated in a press release on Monday.
Joseph Aoun, the Lebanese president, advocated for additional logistical assistance for the nation’s armed forces to strengthen efforts towards disarming Hezbollah, the militant group.
Aoun mentioned, "At the same time, Lebanon and Israel should initiate direct negotiations under international mediation to implement the proposed plan."
Addressing Hezbollah’s initial rocket assaults, the Lebanese presidency remarked, "Those who launched the rockets aimed to provoke the destruction of Lebanon, leading to chaos and devastation that would risk countless villages and the lives of hundreds of thousands of our citizens, all to serve the strategic interests of the Iranian regime."
These remarks illustrate one of the strongest criticisms of Hezbollah by a Lebanese official to date.
As reported by the Lebanese health ministry, at least 394 individuals have lost their lives in Lebanon since Israel began its military strikes against the country earlier this week. Israel asserts that its operations aim to eliminate Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran.
